Notion doesn't have a built-in music player, but you can embed Spotify, YouTube, or SoundCloud directly into any page using the /embed block. Paste a public playlist or track URL and it plays inline. Works on desktop and web; mobile support is limited. The catch: most music services require you to stay on the page for audio to keep playing, so it works best as a focus hub you leave open while you work.
This is the most reliable method. YouTube embeds work without a login, full tracks play (not previews), and there are thousands of focus/study playlists ready to go.
The player renders inline. Hit play, switch to another tab or app, and the audio keeps going. This is the closest Notion gets to a built-in music experience.
Spotify's embed player works in Notion but has one important limitation: you need an active Spotify session (free or paid) for full playback. Without it, you'll hear 30-second previews only.
Spotify's embed player is compact and clean, which makes it a good fit if you want music embedded without taking up much vertical space on your page.
SoundCloud works identically to YouTube in Notion - full playback, no account required for public tracks. It's a good source for ambient music, indie artists, and DJ mixes not available on Spotify.
Apple Music doesn't support direct Notion embeds. The workaround is to use a standard Notion bookmark block (/link) to create a clickable link that opens Apple Music in a new tab. It's not an inline player, but it works as a quick-launch shortcut from your workspace.
Before you build your entire focus setup around embedded music, there are a few things worth knowing:
Once you have music embedded, the natural next step is to make your Notion page a proper focus environment. A YouTube lofi playlist paired with a session timer and habit tracker in the same view turns a blank Notion page into a functional workspace.
Blocs makes this easy with embeddable widgets that live directly inside Notion. Rather than switching between a music tab, a timer app, and a separate habit tracker, you can have everything in one page.
The Blocs Pomodoro timer embeds in Notion via a simple URL and runs 25-minute focus blocks with built-in break intervals. Pair it with your music embed and you have a structured session setup without leaving your workspace. The free tier is available with no account required.
If your focus sessions are tied to a daily routine - writing, studying, deep work - the Blocs habit tracker widget lets you log completions and track streaks directly in Notion. No separate app, no manual Notion database to maintain.
Working toward a specific goal for the day? The Blocs progress bar widget gives you a visual indicator of how far through a task, project, or goal you are. It's a Pro feature, but it's the kind of ambient progress feedback that keeps you on track during long sessions.
All Blocs widgets are embedded the same way as music: paste a URL into a Notion embed block. They're designed to complement - not replace - Notion's native features.

If you're not sure where to start, these categories consistently work well for focused work:
No. Notion doesn't have a built-in audio player or music feature. All music playback in Notion requires embedding an external service like YouTube, Spotify, or SoundCloud using the /embed block.
Inconsistently. The Spotify embed player often doesn't render correctly in the Notion mobile app. On mobile, it's more reliable to use the Spotify app directly and switch between apps.
No. If you navigate to a different Notion page in the same tab, the embed unloads and audio stops. Keep the page with the music embed open in a dedicated browser tab to maintain playback while you work in other tabs or apps.
No. Spotify only generates embeddable links for public playlists and albums. Set your playlist to public in Spotify's settings before copying the share link.
YouTube is the best free option. Full track playback, no login required, and an enormous library of purpose-built focus and study playlists. Many channels publish 1-3 hour videos specifically for work sessions.
Not reliably. Browsers block autoplay to prevent unexpected audio. You'll need to manually click play each time. Some users work around this by pinning their focus Notion page as a permanent tab so it's always loaded.
